What Is It?

The Maine Quality Center program is an economic development initiative of the Maine Community College System.

It offers customized education and training for new or expanding businesses -- at no cost. It is one of the state's most exciting economic development tools, designed to make Maine a more attractive place to do business.

The program provides tangible incentives for businesses to create jobs in the state by offering customized education and training, as well as recruitment and screening of trainees at no cost to either the employer or the trainees.

By matching Maine people with Maine jobs, the Quality Center Program provides a valuable service not only to employers -- by reducing their costs of expansion -- but also to unemployed and underemployed Maine people -- by offering them free, specialized training which may lead to quality, full-time jobs with growing Maine companies.

Benefits to Businesses

The direct benefits to businesses include:
  • Recruitment and training at no cost.
  • Highly motivated, productive employees from day one.
  • Access to York County Community College training resources.
  • Training programs that meet employer specifications.
  • Regional staff who coordinate all training.
  • Recruitment and screening of trainees.
  • Qualified Instructors.
  • Facilities and training equipment.
  • Guarantee of all training and education.
How It Works?

How the Quality Center program operates:

To participate, businesses must create a minimum of eight full-time jobs with benefits (located in Maine.) Training is provided to trainees free of charge, with classes offered in the day, evening and/or weekends. Trainees are not paid wages. Upon completion, trainees are issued college certification delineating the skill competencies obtained. Placement of trainees is not guaranteed. Final determination of hire rests with the employer.
