Program Description
This
collaborative program between YCCC and Central Maine Community College (CMCC)
provides students with the opportunity for concentrated study of
Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) within the framework of YCCC’s
Liberal Studies AA degree program. Students take OHS courses online
through Central Maine Community College while completing coursework for
the Liberal Studies degree at the YCCC campus. All registration and
financial aid requirements are completed at the YCCC campus.
The
Occupational Safety and Health program prepares students to work
independently or as part of a team to make the workplace safer and
healthier by identifying potential job-related hazards and possible ways
to address them through engineering solutions, administrative practices,
and the training and education of employees in safe and healthy work
practices. This concentration is designed for professionals seeking to
upgrade their skills and knowledge and for students intending to
transfer to four-year bachelor programs in majors such as environmental
safety and health, industrial technology, and related fields.
Students
who complete the requirements of this collaborative program can earn a
Certificate in Occupational Safety and Health from CMCC and an Associate
Degree in Liberal Studies from YCCC. The courses listed below are
required to earn the Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety. For
information on additional courses required to complete the AA in Liberal
Studies, please see the Liberal Studies Associate in Arts Degree, which
is the previous program listed..
Students
also have the option of transferring from the Liberal Studies program at
YCCC to the AAS degree in Occupational Safety, offered online at CMCC.
Students who complete the AAS degree in Occupational Health Safety at
CMCC are eligible to sit for the OHST certification exam offered by the
Council on the Certification of Health, Environmental, and Safety
Technicians. Students in this program need to work closely with their
YCCC advisor on course selection and degree completion. For courses to
transfer between institutions, students need to earn grades of C or
higher.
