Program Description
This
program is designed to prepare students to work in the public school
environment as an educational technician and to support and enhance the
knowledge and techniques of those who are currently in educational
technician positions in the public school districts. Students who
successfully complete the courses listed below receive an Associate in
Applied Science Degree. Educational Technicians assist certified
teachers in a number of capacities; by providing general classroom
management, assist with instructional support to students in grades
K-12, and assist with issues of inclusion for children with
exceptionalities.

Graduates of the program will:
· Articulate
and accommodate with appropriate practices based upon their
understanding of patterns of human development and learning; recognizing
that each child’s learning and development are unique based upon
knowledge of family, culture, and biological influences.
· Recognize
various types of exceptionalities, educational processes, resources, and
use the best practices and skills required for assessing children,
planning and implementing teaching strategies.
· Develop
collaborative relationships with families, colleagues, and the school
community to advocate for and to support children’s learning and well
being.
· Articulate
an understanding of special education law and their role as para
educator in supporting children with exceptionalities.
· Communicate
their beliefs about teaching and learning of children in educational
settings, particularly in the context of the role of an educational
technician and as self-determining individual.
· Meet
standards of professional and ethical conduct in relation to
confidentiality and diversity in the student learning environment and
community.
