Goals and Objective: To give participants a basic introduction to various
styles and techniques in dance. Participants will learn the fundamentals of
movement through a series of dance exercises and stretches, short dance
combinations, and longer dance routines. The course will culminate in a dance
exhibition on August 15, where participants will demonstrate what they’ve
learned through various dance routines, complete with costumes, lighting, and
makeup. This summer’s program will focus on four major types of dance as seen
on the theatrical stage and in popular culture: ballet, modern (or
‘interpretive’,) jazz (or ‘Broadway’,) and hip-hop.

no socks, dress shoes, or
‘street’ shoes. Sneakers may be okay, but check with the instructor first.
▪ Long hair should be secured back
and away from the face
