Medical Technician - Basic
Course
Description:
Taught by
professionals in Emergency Medical Services, this course is designed to train
students to the level of Emergency Medical Technician Basic who serve as a vital
link in the chain of the health care team. It is recognized that training
at all levels of the health care team is necessary for effective patient care.
It is also recognized that the majority of pre-hospital emergency care will be
provided by the Emergency Medical Technician. This includes all skills
necessary for the individual to provide emergency medical care at the basic life
support level with an ambulance service or other specialized rescue service.
Course
Objectives:
At the
successful completion of this course, the EMT student will be able to:
1.
Perform a basic patient assessment
2.
Render emergency medical care as defined in the DOT National
Standard Curriculum.
3.
Demonstrate proper documentation for
EMS
run reporting.
4.
Have a general understanding of the rules and regulations that
pertain to the
EMS
system.
5.
To prepare the student to take the National Registry of Emergency
Medical Technicians Basic written exam and The State of Maine Practical Exam.

Tuesday/Thursday
5:30 pm – 9:30 pm
Course Fees:
$525 + $10 registration fee; Blood Pressure Kits w/stethoscopes available
for purchase at registration ($50)
Books ($110)
and Exam Fee ($60) available from/payable to Southern Maine EMS 1st
day of class.
