Emergency Medical Technician - Intermediate
Course
Description:
This
course is designed to train students to the level of Emergency Medical
Technician – Intermediate. The EMT-Intermediate uses skills taught in EMT-Basic
and adds additional knowledge and skills including advanced techniques such as
patient assessment, intravenous lines, medication administration, advanced
airway skills and cardiac monitoring. EMT-Intermediate students complete three
on-campus classes (listed below) as well as hospital and field clinical
experiences to obtain state licensure.
It is
recognized that training at all levels of the health care team is necessary for
effective patient care. Upon completion of this program, EMT-Intermediates may
decide to progress to the next, and highest level of EMS certification, EMT-Paramedic.

to take the State of Maine written and practical examinations.

NOTE:
Students at the EMT-Intermediate and EMT-Paramedic levels will require the
following before beginning clinical rotations:
·
Up-to-date
vaccinations with appropriate documentation
·
Liability
insurance coverage for clinical courses.
These
items are the responsibility of the student. Insurance requirements may be met
with a letter from your agency/employer stating that their liability insurance
(1 million/3 million minimum) will cover you as a student in the YCCC program
and provide a copy of the policy of the copy if requested.
Completion of 4 courses will be required to sit for the Maine EMS final
practical and written examinations:
Fundamentals of EMS
