Course Description
The purpose
of this course is to teach experienced certified nursing assistants (CNAs)
to administer selected non-injecta0ble medications to patients who are 14
years of age and older.
This 120
hour program includes: 60 hours Theory
20 hours
Skills laboratory
40
hours Clinical
By the time
the student completes this course he/she will be able to:
1.
State the legal and ethical responsibilities of the Certified Nursing
Assistant – Medications (CNA-M) in medication administration.
2.
Demonstrate knowledge of household, apothecary, and metric measurements.
3.
Demonstrate a basic knowledge of drug categories, including their expected
action, contraindications for use, normal dosage range, precautions to
observe, and common side effects.
4.
Prepare, administer, and store selected non-injectable medications.
5. Record medication administration.
This class replaces the
daytime class offered in the spring flyer based on community needs and
desires. Since the need for CNA-Ms is so great, and they are needed so
quickly, additional class time will be added. The course will begin with
Monday and Wednesday nights from 6 – 9:00 p.m. and will add Thursday nights
for extra clinical hours and may adjust the start time of class as well.
YCCC will do what we can to train the CNAs as quickly and as thoroughly as
possible.
