York County Community College welcomes Glenn Cummings, Maine Speaker of the House, as the 2008 Commencement on Saturday, May 17 at 10:00am.

Speaker Cummings is a passionate educator and has spent much of his career working with students in the classroom, or working on education policy as a state leader. He is a professor of economics and entrepreneurship at Southern Maine Community College, founded the SMCC’s Entrepreneurial Center, and served as the Center’s first Director. Previously, he worked as a high school civics teacher and as the Director of Portland Partnerships, an educational non-profit group that builds relationships between public schools and local businesses.

In addition, Joseph R. Hanslip will attend YCCC's commencement and provide brief greetings on behalf of the Board of Trustees and the Maine Community College System. Trustee Hanslip is a resident of, and serves on the Town Council for, the Town of Sanford.
