in need...
Another slice of life from Cambodia... by
Cindy J. Lahar
indeed life is very comfortable -
another day of appreciating life and health for me - I think how lucky I am so
often here.
here is another story to give us pause:
My very poor friend Heng Hour lives down at the beach - works as a moto-driver
lucky to make 50 cents a day- high costs of gasoline and all make it even harder
-
occasionally he is very lucky to find a tourist who will pay $5 or $7 a day to
be driven around. He called me this morn cuz his father is sick, and lives two
long bus rides away. He doesn't even have enough
money for the first bus ride to get him up here to the city. Each bus ride is
about $1. So, he'll borrow the money and get up here tomorrow and I'll meet him
when he arrives. I'll give him $10 and he'll have
more than enough to get up to his homeland and back....heck - I'll probably
splurge and give him a twenty!
In December my sociology students back at YCCC took up a collection for a poor
Cambodian family -same family. it doesn't take much to help out here... I love
that about this place.
