SURVEY OF PSYCHOLOGY - DETAILS FOR CLASS REQUIREMENTS:
- Watch and Reports
You will be required to give a short 'watch and report' presentation to the class two times during
the term. Watch for any interesting newspaper or magazine articles, TV commercials or short segments,
advertisements, local stories, etc. that deal with any area of psychology. We will begin each class
with 'Watch and Report' presentations.
Please bring handouts or prepared OHP's and plan for a 3-5 minute presentation.
It is absolutely necessary that your selection is related to the topic of the course. In your presentation,
you must clearly state the relevance of your topic to the field of Psychology.
- Attendance and Participation
Attendance and punctuality are required. There will be times when it will be necessary for you to miss a class
(due to illness or for other reasons). In order for an absence to be excused, a letter of explanation (in English)
is required from you and a standard form is needed from your doctor.
If you have more than 5 unexcused absences then you will be asked to withdraw from the course.
- Quizzes and Final Exam
Short quizzes will be assigned throughout the term.
Final Exam: There will be a final exam scheduled during the final examination period.
You will be able to use your 10-minute paper book for this final exam.
- 10-Minute papers
In each class meeting, time will be allotted in class to add to your writing journal.
This journal is a place where you can write about your reactions to the class, and also provide a forum
for your questions on class material. At times, you will be asked to respond to questions posed by your teacher.
- In-class activities will include Workshops, Computer labs, Homework & Cross-cultural exchange assignments
You will be asked to lead class discussions and provide short presentations in this class throughout the term. We will also
hold in-class workshops on various topics, including computer-related work. You will be discussing course-related topics
with students at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) in New York.
- Focus project:
Focus topics will be determined in consultation with your teacher before the middle of the term.
The topic you choose can be in any area of psychology. You will become the class expert on this topic,
and write a paper as well as teach the other students about your psychology focus area.
