• Attendance 10%

• Participation 10%

• Journals, summaries and notes 20%

• In-class activities/Presentations 30%

CLASS REQUIREMENTS:

• Watch and Reports

You will be required to give a short 'watch and report' presentation two times during the term. Watch for any interesting newspaper articles, TV segment, local stories, etc. that deal with any area of abnormal psychology. We will begin each class (starting on April 17) with 'Watch and Report' presentations.

Please bring handouts or prepared OHP’s and plan for a 3-5 minute presentation. It is absolutely necessary that your selection be related to the topic of the course. In your presentation, you must clearly state the relevance of your topic to abnormal psychology.

• Attendance

Attendance and punctuality are required. If you are absent or late for class, points will be deducted from your attendance grade. If you have more than 5 unexcused absences then you will be asked to withdraw from the course.

• Participation

Participation in class discussions and in group work will be graded.

• Journals

In many class meetings, time will be allotted in class to add to your writing journal. This journal is a place where you can write about your reactions to the class, and also provide a forum for your questions on class material. At times, you will be asked to respond to questions posed by your teacher. Your journal will also be available for you to take class notes and to summarize topics that are covered in class.

• In-class activities will include Workshops, Computer labs, Videos and Films, and student presentations

You will be asked to lead class discussions and provide short presentations in this class throughout the term. We will also hold in-class workshops on various topics, including computer-related work. We will watch some movies and write summaries, and work with a sociology class on one movie project.

• Final project:

Final topics will be determined in consultation with your teacher before the middle of the term. The topic you choose can be in any area of abnormal psychology. You will become the class expert on this topic. You may choose to create a project that results in a written paper or in a computer web page or web site. You will be required to teach the other students about your final project as a final presentation.
