ACTIVE
LEARNING WITH WEBBOARD
PART ONE
What is WebBoard?
WebBoard is similar to e-mail; however, many teachers at
MIC (and overseas) believe it is better because:
 |
WB allows facilitates directed learning (in cross and mono-cultural
environments); |
 |
it
is a transparent form of communication (students and
teachers can read all postings); |
 |
it
allows users to attach pictures, videos, MS Word Documents; |
 |
teachers
and students can make
links to Internet resources; |
 |
it has chat room features (synchronous and asynchronous). |
WebBoard is particularly useful at MIC because it allows
teachers to use active learning methods to teach language AND computer
skills at the same time.
In today's workshop, you will see how WB has
been used to:
 |
teach
students to search for information on the Internet (in a safe way) |
 |
practice writing
(in-class and homework assignments) |
 |
integrate
today's multimedia technology into the
classroom (especially useful with video) |
 |
practice
reading and paraphrasing (by summarizing what others have written) |
 |
give
oral presentations |
 |
communicate
with foreign students abroad |
