 MATERNITY LEAVE

   
MSEA MEMBERS  
   

Childbirth or adoption leave shall be granted to an employee without salary for a period not to exceed one (1) year inclusive of any period of disability.  Employees shall have the option of using accumulated compensating time and annual leave during such period.  Employees shall be allowed to retain insurance benefits during such leave.  Except during any period covered by the use of compensating time or annual leave, or Family Medical Leave Act. Retention of insurance benefits shall be at the employee’s expense.

   
MEA FACULTY  
   

" Leave shall be without pay and shall be for a maximum of 1 year from the start of approved leave. While on leave, faculty member may have access to insurance benefits at their own expense unless otherwise provided by law.  Upon return from leave, faculty member shall have the right to return to a position substantially the equivalent to their former position or to the same position if available."

   

Consult the Employee Rights to Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993 and your respective bargaining union contract for details.
