General Information
York County Community College offers online courses to students as an alternative to the regular classroom. Online courses do not have regular meetings in a physical space. Learning is asynchronous, meaning that students can participate in their class at the times that are most convenient for their schedule.
Online courses are interactive in nature, with students using an Internet-based system to participate in electronic discussions, receive and submit assignments, and communicate with the instructor through email.
Because of this, you should not expect your online course to always run smoothly. The connection may be slow or the server may crash. You should be aware that these situations may occur and be prepared to deal with them when they do.
As with campus-based courses, online courses follow the
academic calendar, with a beginning date and an ending date. Online courses have regular deadlines for completing assignments and activities.
Online courses are best suited for independent learners able to benefit from reading and writing based instruction. The most successful online learners are those who can schedule their course participation on a regular basis.
