Wells- An articulation agreement between the University of Maine at Orono (UMaine) and YCCC's Early Childhood Education Department (ECE) was signed recently. This agreement allows for the transfer of YCCC students' credits into the Early Childhood Education and Human Services programs.
Upon passing the PRAXIS I exam, YCCC graduates may enter UMaine's Early Childhood Education program with all 62 credits being transferred to fulfill the bachelor degree. "YCCC is very pleased to be in a partnership with the University of Maine that permits our Associate Degree graduates to continue with their education and pursue a Baccalaureate degree from such a well respected program," said Paula Gagnon, Vice President and Academic Dean at York County Community College.
Research is noting that by approximately the year 2014 there will be a increased need for Preschool Teachers. "We are excited about this articulation. It offers our students an opportunity to continue in their field of endeavor," advised Ro-Jean Straw, Early Childhood Education Dept. Chair. " We will continue to work with other four-year institutions to offer as seamless a transition as possible in the career field of Early Childhood Education." This articulation mirrors an agreement already held between YCCC and the University of Maine-Farmington.
York County Community College, established in 1994, is one of seven community colleges in the Maine Community College System. The college enrolls over 1,000 students in associate degrees and transfer programs and over 1,600 individuals in non-credit continuing education and professional development areas.
