Phlebotomy Certification
This is a fully funded program for up to twenty students, generously provided by Maine Quality Centers. All participating students will be required to have a high school diploma, or GED; be at least 18 years of age before beginning this course; be a Maine resident; and negatively impacted by covid and/or unemployed or underemployed. Students will earn certification upon successful completion of the course through YCCC and the exam offered by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA).
Topics covered in training: Healthcare Setting and Quality Assurance; Infection Control; Safety; Medical Terminology; Anatomy Review; Circulatory System; Equipment and Procedures; Considerations and Capillary Punctures; Special Collections; Computers; Non-Blood Tests; Arterial Punctures; NHA Phlebotomy Exam Review. This program will be entirely online, with the exception of the labs. Labs included in this course will have provisions made to have “virtual” labs for all work except live sticks, in the event that there are still restrictions due to COVID-19. Labs will also be available for students to improve their proficiency, allowing time for them to practice live sticks, as needed.
