York County Community College (YCCC) is pleased to offer a fantastic line-up of art classes this August with local artist and teacher Heather Lewis. The classes were designed are with our location in mind, with the draw of the beautiful seacoast.  There is something for everyone; working locals, vacationers and even middle schoolers who want to make art.

Our offerings include:

Drawing for Middle-Schoolers (Grades 5-8) – $235
“FUN”damentals of Design! Color! Shape! Pattern! Texture! At the heart of all of the arts are the elements of design. Learn about them by exploring with lots of different materials and processes – collage, mosaics, cutting, drawing, painting, and more! All skills are welcome!
Wednesdays, 8/7 through 8/28, 1- 4 p.m.

Evening Sketch Group – $200
If you are like so many, you love to draw, but, to do it, you need the construct of a class with regular meetings, and the convenience of a studio space. During this class work from a variety of subjects from set-ups and the model, to outdoor sketching at Wells Harbor. Refresh your skills, with the guidance and encouragement from instructor Heather Lewis, who uses age-old drawing exercises, and reference to the art of the Masters. All skill levels welcome. Materials: 18 x 24 Newsprint, willow, and compressed charcoal, kneaded eraser, 9 x 12 sketchbook, graphite pencils (4B, 6B).
Thursdays, 8/8 through 8/29, 6-8:30 p.m.

Sketching the Maine Seacoast – $235
This exciting class is inspired by our area’s renowned beauty and history of a strong tradition in the arts. Study the work of artists who, over the years, were called to the area! Learn the basics about sketching-working with color, composition, materials and processes? With sketchbooks in hand, students will take short field trips to various local destinations to capture Maine’s dramatic and varied scenic beauty – harbors, lighthouses, marshes, and of course, the iconic rocky shoreline. During this class, we will visit another local treasure – The Ogunquit Museum of Fine Art!
Wednesdays, 8/7 through 8/28, 9-12 p.m.

Heather Lewis is an accomplished visual artist, teacher, coach, possessing a life-long immersion in the arts. Her fine art training began in Delaware with artist parents and continued at art school-The Philadelphia College of Art, and then the State University of New York. Heather has been actively creating and exhibiting art, and working with the community for over 25 years.  Her work is refreshing and original! She masterfully captures and interprets the natural world around her, and infuses it with emotional vibrancy. Heather Lewis has exhibited extensively in Delaware, central New York and in New England. Her work is included in prominent private and corporate collections. Lewis lives and works at her home, a restored 19th-century farmhouse and barn studio, in a country town near the seaside. Her world of rolling farmland, dramatic ocean and marsh scenes is a constant source of inspiration for her art.
