Poet, writer, and teacher Brian Evans-Jones will be coming to York County Community College in Wells this summer to teach a week of Creative Writing camp for 12-15 year olds. Brian, who lives in South Berwick, has just been awarded the 2017 Writers Exchange Award from Poets and Writers. Poets & Writers is America’s largest nonprofit organization serving creative writers, and the Writers Exchange Award is a contest that every year introduces two emerging writers from a selected state to the New York City literary community. The state for 2017 was Maine, and Brian was chosen as the poetry winner.

Brian teaches poetry and creative writing in schools, colleges, and community venues in both Maine and New Hampshire, and in the week of July 10-14 he will be teaching the new Introduction to Creative Writing course at YCCC. Up to 16 students will learn new skills to write fictional stories, poetry, and creative essays. Brian said, “On the camp, we’ll look at how to start, finish, and edit our writing in the ways that professional writers do. Students will have the chance to explore kinds of writing that they may not have tried before, as well as developing their abilities in their favorite genres. And we’ll have a lot of fun along the way! This course should be a wonderful week for any student who loves to write or who is curious to learn more about creative writing.”

The course fee is $259. For more information about registering, please call 207.216.4344 or click HERE.  For more about Brian or course content, see or email him at
