Lisa Pratt Awarded Fearless ME Scholarship

July 28, 2021

YCCC is pleased to announce that Lisa Pratt has been awarded the Fearless ME Scholarship for the 2021/2022 academic year.

After many years working in the healthcare industry, Lisa Pratt is now pursuing her Criminal Justice degree at YCCC and is a stay-at-home mother of two children, ages 8 & 10. Like many other parents, Lisa took on the new and unexpected roles of distance learning coach, activities director, art teacher, chef, Spanish tutor and so much more during the pandemic while her husband worked tirelessly on the front lines at Southern Maine Healthcare. Lisa has a strong commitment to the community and serves on the Kennebunk Inclusive Playground Project Committee,  the Kennebunk Energy Efficiency Committee and the  Kennebunk Select Board.  Additionally, she used her healthcare training and put it to the best use possible by volunteering at the York County Covid-19 Clinic in Sanford.

“I am so proud and grateful to be the 2021 Fearless Me Scholarship recipient.  It validates the hard work I did for our community during the Covid-19 pandemic.” said Pratt  “I am excited that I will now be able to complete my degree sooner and therefore enter the workforce again with a career I love while also continuing to serve and improve my community as a member of the Kennebunk Select Board.”

This full-tuition scholarship was created in recognition of the one-year anniversary of the Covid-19 pandemic making its impact on the State of Maine and in memory of all the Mainers who COVID-19 impacted. The scholarship is awarded annually to one recipient that has displayed a commitment to our community, helping others, and overcoming obstacles.

The establishment of the scholarship was inspired by the courage and determination shown by Mainers during the Covid-19 public health crisis as noted by President Fischer, “They say the only thing with more resources than Maine is Mainers themselves. That has never been more true than over the past year. Throughout the COVID Pandemic, we persisted, we overcame, we pushed forward, and we were FEARLESS when it came to helping others and helping our communities.”
