Maya Eichorn of Kennebunk Maine has been named York County Community College’s 2024 Student of the Year. Maya was selected by faculty and staff at YCCC for her academic success as wells as her campus and community involvement.

Since earning her High School Equivalency Diploma, Maya has worked with the League of Women Voters of Maine to increase civic engagement on campus and is now honored to serve on their board of directors. Maya is the president of the Student Government Association at YCCC and is a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society, with a 4.0 GPA. She also serves on YCCC College Cabinet, bringing the student voice and perspective to College Leadership. Her passion for advocating for her peers drives everything she does at YCCC. She enjoys making art, a relaxing getaway from political and school activities. After graduating this May with her degree in Liberal Studies Maya plans to continue her education and earn her BA in Journalism.

In addition to being named Student of the Year, she will receive the John and Jana Lapoint Leadership Award in the amount of $1,000. The Lapoints both served as trustees of the Maine Community College System, and after John’s death in 1995, Jana Lapoint established the fund for the annual awards.
